FRACTURE
Process
A small frozen peat bog offered endless possibilities to capture the fascinating subject, ice, in so many different and intricate ways. On the fringes of the bog, new layers formed amongst a gentle sprinkling of snow, the obvious protruding ice pattern which displays two jagged knife-like edges creating a strong visual anchor. In contrast, the smooth glossy textures and some iridescent colours are appealing also. At first glance, it looks quite chaotic personally, but now somehow those elements in the scene although very different in pattern, texture and geometry all work in harmony with each other and there's a sort of flow from one element to the other. To put it in context it’s like shoelaces in a way, let loose and untied it's the messy and unorganised state that doesn’t quite fit right on the first impressions of the scene, but if you compose the frame carefully and thoughtfully the sense of flow is present when you give it time, moving left, right, up and down, making minor adjustments slowly lacing up the frame, making a comfortable and coherent scene from one element to another until you pull it close together it allows all the pieces to interconnect with each other, like a completed lace, resulting in an image which is constructed to be organised, harmonious and hopefully effective.
